Lorie Porter, Marriage and Family Therapy Graduate Intern
I am a Marriage and Family Therapy Graduate Student Intern from Liberty University and I am completing my internship at Heritage Family Center under the supervision of Nikita Harrison, MHA, Ed.S, LMFT-S. I have a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Clemson University. I am passionate about helping individuals, couples and families walk through issues and concerns related to daily life and functioning, and am particularly interested in helping adults who are recovering from destructive marriages, those who have experienced emotional trauma which impacts their ability to move forward with life and healthy relationships, and individuals and families who have been impacted by medical challenges.
Counseling is a process of personal exploration and growth, and I believe everyone has within themselves the ability and inner wisdom to overcome life’s challenges if given the opportunity and the necessary tools for change. I see therapy as the opportunity to walk with clients through life challenges while helping them facilitate their personal growth and desired life changes. I use a theoretically integrated approach that may utilize Solution-Focused, Narrative and Emotionally Focused therapy models while drawing on a range of therapeutic options according to client needs. I approach therapy holistically with the belief that we are all physical, emotional and spiritual beings and that all three aspects of our human experience influence health and the personal growth process and I work with each of my clients to achieve the best possible results.
